Situation turns sour at Charlton

|

Its been a tense few months since Brentford came in for Lyle Taylor. Fans have been on the edge of their seats awaiting his decision and now it’s finally come.

According to The South London Press Lyle Taylor responded to ESI’s contract agreement by declining the initial offer tempting ESI to listen to January offers for the striker.

Now I don’t think it’s fair that Taylor has been leaving us thinking he was going to sign after his “Sheikh” tweet left fans thinking he was going to sign on the dotted line, but his cryptic tweet has, of course, left a sour taste in our mouths.

You can’t fault what he has done for us s a club, he played a huge part in us getting promoted last season joining the 25 goal club which sees legends like Clive Mendonca and Derek Hales in its ranks, but I think that’s what hurts the most, he could have become a club legend but decided to go down a rather confusing route with the fans almost like he wanted to anger them.

Of course, I would be happy if this was all media propaganda, but it’s not I really doubt it is.

Thank you for what good you have done at the club, but there is one thing no Charlton fan is going to miss about you…..Twitter.

He is almost 30, playing for fans and a club who think he is wonderful, living in the South East of England, getting a decent offer of an contract!?! If that is unacceptable then its bye bye. Our academy has grown over the past few years and is turning out world class players. With the new owners there is a good chance we will be properly protecting these and hanging onto most of these from now on. More than ever, our first team is made up of kids under 20 relying on the attitude and guidance of the older members of the team so you cant have their young minds soured by a bad apple. If that is what Lyle has become then let him go to the highest bidder. As John’s reply, no body is bigger than the club!

I understood from the press conference he was made an offer but it was “left with his representative” only about a day or so and that “it was in the representative’s court” which doesn’t mean it was definitely even relayed to Lyle or that he actually had time to do any more than to consider it. Also I believe what some people may call ‘a good offer’ others wouldn’t. I suspect that something is amiss in terms of it not being a Championship version of his previous one or with his personal terms.

Equally, it could have something to do with what Southall said about relegation provisions. I understand that this would be a Championship offer with a percentage agreed to be taken off if we were back in a League 1 and that in these situations players usually try to get a bigger wage in the current league to allow for the loss in the event of relegation. Maybe the Championship wage is the snagging point? Also, it could all be just what Bowyer has consistently said in that Lyle wants reassurances about Bowyer and had only said I won’t sign anything until the manger has signed. This may then have been referred to as a “rejection” when actually he may not have actually had anything against the contract or even known anything about it!
