Lee Bowyer gives his verdict on Charlton’s loss to Crystal Palace

|

Lee Bowyer saw his valiant Charlton side lose 3-0 to Crystal Palace despite a strong display in the first hour, the Addicks made wholesale changes on the 60-minute mark which ultimately led to Charlton’s demise in this game.

Who is this?

Charlton held their own defensively before all the subs were made, however, we managed a couple of chances, but couldn’t finish our passages of play which was a huge problem at the backend of last season and it looks to be having a knock-on effect.

Obviously we are nowhere near fully equipped for this season and Thomas Sandgaard’s takeover is something Charlton need right now to lift the transfer embargo.

Lee Bowyer gave his thoughts to Richard Cawley from The South London Press and here is what he had to say after Charlton were beaten by Crystal Palace

“The first hour we were good, solid-ish – we moved the ball well and got into good areas. It’s just that bit of quality in that final third that we’re lacking.

“That’s why we need to bring people in. From back to front we do well, against a good Palace side.

“But I don’t think we had a shot. It’s alright looking pretty [without end product].”

I know for a fact Charlton can play good football but it’s just so unfortunate we can never seem to finish off what we start, it’s just simply frustrating for the fans to witness.

Bowyer continued

“In the first hour there was Alfie’s backpass! That was the only shot we had. We got into so many good positions but didn’t have that final bit.

“We’ve been working back to front, because it is new to us how we’re playing, and that’s been working. We’ve just got bring in that final bit of quality and we’ll go from there.”

I’m sure Bowyer knows that the finishing should be the main thing we should be working on right now and I hope that it is the priority because we can’t continue on like this with clear cut chances either getting blasted straight at the keeper or going harmlessly wide, because we will not win games like that.

Bowyer and Jacko will certainly work their magic when we are given the opportunity to sign some new players but until then we are going to be sub-par on finishing our plays.
