Gunnar Thorvaldsson has failed to earn himself a contract with Charlton after Phil Parkinson decided against giving him a deal.

Thorvaldsson has spent the whole of pre-season, apart from a time out through injury with The Addicks but Parkinson hasn’t offered the 28-year-old a contract.

Parkinson was keen to give the Icelandic international as much time as he could to impress him, however his chances of earning a permanent contract were dented when he injured his thigh in his opening pre-season match against AFC Wimbledon.

Pawel Abbott’s arrival on Friday and the moves being made for Paul Benson have made up Parkinson’s find on the former Reading striker.
