Three players that could make a move to Charlton this January

|

With the January transfer window well underway, Lee Bowyer and Steve Gallen are wasting no time in bringing in new players to boost the injury-ravaged Charlton side that currently sit in 19th in the Championship.

The pair made Aston Villa winger Andre Green their first signing of the window, who joins the club on loan until the end of the season after having his loan spell with fellow Championship side Preston North End cut short due to a lack of game time.

The 21-year-old made his debut in yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup, impressing the Charlton fans. Andre has a lot of potential and will get the game time he needs over here. He’s similar to Jonathan Leko; he’s quick, he’s got some trickery and he’s bagged a couple of goals against us! He’s a much-needed addition to the side and I can’t wait to see him in action on Saturday.

However, he for sure will not be the only body Bowyer brings into the side this window. We have already been linked with a handful of players in January, including Toulouse midfielder John Bostock and Middlesbrough attacking midfielder Marcus Browne, but it was confirmed by Richard Cawley today that neither of them are transfer targets for the club.

Nevertheless, there are three other players that Charlton have been linked with and they could well be a target for the Addicks this term:

Eddie Nketiah

With the amount of injuries we have in the attacking line, it’s no surprise that Bowyer is targeting a striker this window and this one is sure to excite supporters!

According to News Shopper, we have been linked with Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah on loan until the end of the season. The 20 year old was previously on loan with Leeds United at the start of the season, making 17 appearances and scoring three goals, but he has since been recalled by his parent club, who are looking to send him back out on loan to get first-team game time.

Now, this would be an excellent signing for the Addicks. Nketiah is an exciting young talent with bags of potential. He’s played some minutes for the Gunners in the Europa League and they will want him to go somewhere where he will get guaranteed minutes. He will definitely get that here and I cannot see him going outside of London for a second time this season. Let’s hope and pray that this signing does become a reality.

Alex Mowatt

Another area where Charlton have been completely decimated by injuries is the midfield. With the club looking likely to cancel Beram Kayal’s loan, as well as not offering Joe Ledley an extension, Bowyer and Gallen will be hoping to boost the numbers in that area before the window shuts.

One midfielder we’ve been rumoured to sign is Alex Mowatt. The 24-year-old has played 24 games out of 26 for relegation-threatened Barnsley this season, scoring twice and getting seven assists. He currently has six months left on his contract and it is rumoured that Barnsley will be likely to cash in. With Charlton’s midfield looking quite slim at the moment, it’s an option that we might have to consider.

Ronan Curtis

Another midfielder we’ve been linked with is Portsmouth’s Ronan Curtis. The 23-year-old Irishman has managed 10 goals this season in 21 games for Kenny Jackett’s side.

He’s a decent player who can also play out on the wing and cause trouble for defenders. Although I can’t see us making a move for him inĀ  January, as I doubt Portsmouth will be willing to let him go at this stage considering he is their top goalscorer this campaign, but he is a player that does excite me and has caused issues for us in the past. He’s another option to consider with our midfield problems at the moment.
