Peter Varney warns about the possibility of Duchatlelet giving the club notice

|

The ownership saga might finally have its end in its sights as ex-chief executive Peter Varney is teaming up with Andrew Barclay to buy the club, The Valley and Charlton’s training ground Sparrows Lane, it’s what we have been begging to hear for a long time and we know Varney brings good fortune with him to Charlton.

Can you name all of Charlton’s England internationals? Why don’t you have a go and see if you can name them all!

Who is this?

None of this will be happening overnight, Varney is expecting this to drag out for a month, but after how long we have waited for a good change in ownership I’m sure we won’t mind waiting another month if this is all genuine.

Peter Varney has told the South London Press this morning about the possibility of Charlton losing The Valley and Sparrows Lane if Roland Duchatlelet was to evict The Addicks from the premises.

That would be absolutely heartbreaking after working so hard to keep every aspect of Charlton alive, we have been doing since the beginning and we will keep on doing it and the generations to come.

Varney spoke to Toby Porter from The South London Press and here is what he had to say

“In my experience, it is essential that whoever acquires the club, and does a deal with Panama and ESI, that they also acquire the training ground and The Valley.

“They would also need to sort out the ex-directors. Anything else would be a recipe for disaster.

“If the premises are not bought from Roland Duchatelet, he could turn around, down the line, and give the club notice. We have been there before in the Michael Gliksten era. And look where that ended up.

“When I go to games, fans are talking not about football but about the board and the ownership, about Range Rovers and expenses – Oh, and by the way, did you see we just scored? It is not right and it has got to stop.”

He is right, Charlton is not the same since he left and all the talk has been about the board and not the football, it is not how a football club should be run, but finally we have someone who wants to make that change as badly as all the fans do.

Varney is trusted to make a good impression on Charlton once again and I have to say with everything he did for us we certainly need him to come back again, at this stage I wouldn’t take anyone else.

PV is right. Why would any potential or actual owner of the Addicks jeopardize their asset by renting their training ground and stadium. That risk is just too great.
