Lee Bowyer provides an update on injuries ahead of relegation clash

|

Injuries have been our main talking point this season as we have been constantly ravaged by them and at one point we even had 15 players out which could throw any team off their best form and it hit Charlton hard as we went on an 11 game winless run within that time which lasted from the 19th of October all the way through to Boxing Day.

Can you get 15/15 on this Charlton Athletic General Knowledge Quiz? I bet you can’t, but feel free to prove me wrong!

Who scored a hattrick against Liverpool in 2003?

Charlton have since added to the physio team as they signed Danny Murphy who has also worked very closely with Welsh International and Real Madrid outcast Gareth Bale, who George Lapslie has personally thanked for his efforts and ending his hamstring problems that he had been struggling with for months, so it’s good to see we have finally brought someone in who can really help out with the injuries and since he has come in, the casualties have been kept to a minimum.

Lee Bowyer spoke with Richard Cawley from The South London Press and here is what he had to say

“I think over the weekend he has been outside and done some stuff [Darren Pratley] hopefully he’ll be okay for selection.

“I’m not sure with Naby, it’s just his calf. Tom has got one more game to go. But we have to get on with it, whether people are fit or not. To have the pair of them out at the same time is difficult.

“It shows that defenders are just as important as your strikers. They all play a vital part.”

Fingers crossed we have Prats and Nabs back for the Boro game, it’s going to be so crucial to pick up three points from this one and we need all our top performers to see this one out.

I think we have been missing Naby’s presence in recent games we have been missing that someone who magically gets through the opposition’s midfield and gives an opportunity to push up, I feel that for a defender he has a lot of attacking prowess about him, sometimes I look at him bolting up the pitch and think “how has he not been tackled yet?”.

I’m really looking forward to his return as he has not been in the squad since the 3-1 Luton win and we haven’t won or even scored since.

Pratley, on the other hand, is someone we need who keeps the midfield together and organized with his experience and fearless attitude when approaching the opponent and when we haven’t got that the other teams attackers take advantage of that and we have seen that against Huddersfield, the team was just lost.

Sooner those two come back the better, but you’ve also got to remember we will be without Tom Lockyer on Saturday as he serves the final game of his ban as he picked up ten yellow cards.

It’s going to be a very tough game on Saturday but make sure you bring your singing voices down and cheer on the boys!
