Bowyer retracts his points statement as relegation battle heats up

|

Just a couple weeks ago Lee Bowyer said that we would require 47 points to stay in the Championship this season, unfortunately for us, the teams below us seem to have picked up form in their latest games and now we sit just one point off the relegation zone with 39 points and 10 games left to play.

Can you get 25/25 on this former Charlton players quiz? I bet you can’t, but feel free to prove me wrong!

Who is this?

Barnsley and Luton have stepped up their performances as of late securing 10 points from their last 6 games which have pushed their chances of survival even higher.

Naturally, Bowyer looked back on what he said about his points target and increased it to 50 points as he spoke to Richard Cawley from The South London Press

“I think you’ll need about 50 – not more than that, the teams that are winning have all got to start playing each other – so both can’t win.

“People can say our run-in looks easier on paper but all the teams are fighting for something. There are no bad teams in this division.

“If I’m looking positively then we’re above Barnsley and Luton – two clubs that finished above us last season and both of them have spent money.”

The wins have not exactly been coming thick and fast, we have had two wins and three losses in the last five games, but the last couple of performances from the team have not been promising.

The mood around the fans has not exactly been positive either the last week, but we need to keep our heads up and lift the team when they walk out on Saturday against Middlesbrough because this game could be the kickstart we need to get back on form or it could be the match that takes this relegation battle out of our hands.

If we are to reach that point target that would mean we would have to get three wins and two draws from our next ten games, I believe that is achievable, but the players need to show more desire on the pitch and in return, they get the desire from the fans when we see they are working hard and we all know how loud The Covered End can be.

Let’s give the lads the support they need these next ten games because the outcome of this season will be so important for our future.
