Lee Bowyer outlines his positive reasons for recent decision that had divided opinion

|

One of our new signings Aiden McGeady is a player I’m very excited to see play for The Addicks, whenever we played Sunderland last season he was always the biggest threat for The Black Cats.

Who won player of the year in 2020?

The Irishman who has appeared 95 times for his country has been forced out of The Stadium of Light after former Charlton manager Phil Parkinson froze out the 33-year-old winger even though he had won Player of the Year award last season.

McGeady has played fifteen games for Sunderland whilst scoring four times and assisting twice this campaign so it seems to me it’s a strange decision to just force McGeady out rather than try to sort out whatever it is that is troubling Aiden and the club.

Are you happy with Aiden McGeady joining the club?

Yes

No

I know Lee Bowyer wouldn’t stand for any kind of trouble in the backroom and he is certainly testing his patience with McGeady as he is known to be somewhat of a hot head in the dressing room, not my personal opinion obviously but it’s just what I’ve heard about him.

Bowyer spoke with Richard Cawley from The South London Press and here is what he had to say after being questioned on his signing of Aiden McGeady

“I had no doubts, whatever happens at other clubs is nothing to do with what is going to happen at our club. He was one of the best players in League One last season.

“When they played at our place he was their biggest threat. He scores goals and gets assists and can just make something happen out of nothing. He’ll be a good addition to our squad and he’ll bring us something a little different to what we’ve got. He can play out wide or he can play as a 10.”

Who was Charlton's first-ever manager?

Can’t wait to see Aiden start for Charlton and show what he can do still do in the Championship and I feel he still has a lot more to give.
