Lee Bowyer on the recent news linking him to the Birmingham City job

|

The one person that is holding everything together as much as he can is Lee Bowyer, he has worked tirelessly on his Charlton side to get on the road to becoming the best team it can be and we absolutely love him for it.

Can you get 20/20 on this Charlton Academy Players quiz? I bet you can’t, but feel free to prove me wrong!

Who is this?

The problem is he won’t be here forever and with the recent ownership shenanigans taking place many fans are surprised that he is even still working hard in the camp, many people would give up when things behind the scenes are not going their way, but Bowyer has battled on through every up and down we have endured the last few years.

He was recently linked to the Birmingham City job and he used it as an example of how well his players can play to inject a bit more confidence into the team.

The gaffer spoke with The South London Press and here is what he had to say.

“It is always nice to be recognised for the hard work we are doing. I am not surprised to be linked to the Birmingham job because I played there. It is automatic in the circumstances.

“But I am just focusing on Charlton. This is my task. The link will not take away my concentration.

“It is the players who have to do it on the pitch – that is why I’ve said ‘we’ not ‘me’.

“They are the ones who have gone out and done what I have asked of them, day in, day out – not just on match days.

“It is something we have earned the right to – being recognised. That is why our players have gone on, unfortunately, to bigger and better things: Joe Aribo, Karlan Grant, Krystian Bielik, Anfernee Dijksteel. It shows we are doing the right thing – improving players. And they are buying into it.”

Good to hear that Bows is making sure his full focus is getting us to stay up in the Championship this season and he’s not letting this story distract him, the interest is certainly there, but with him being a former Birmingham player it is obviously going to make him a top candidate going forward.

I do hope he stays for years to come he is a great manager and just about every mistake he makes he learns from and never does it again he is a good learner and a great motivator, he can take us to the top flight, I certainly believe it!
