Macauley Bonne looks to his future

|

Macauley Bonne could be on his way to being a Charlton superstar and right now as we face this relegation battle that is the kind of player and character we need in this side, you can tell Bonne is a confident person.

Can you get 20/20 on this Charlton Academy Players quiz? I bet you can’t, but feel free to prove me wrong!

Who is this?

Bonne is aiming to play at the highest level at some stage it won’t come without hard work from the Zimbabwean and he has taken many influences of strikers in the Premier League who came up from non-league level such as Jamie Vardy and Callum Wilson as he looks to re-create a Jamie Vardy story.

I believe he will have the quality at some point to reach the heights of the Premier League and hopefully it will be with Charlton, but it’s looking quite unlikely right now what with the ownership problems that need to be sorted, but once they are sorted out I think we can challenge with Bonne being our main striker if he can show his worth in the final nine games of this season.

Bonne spoke to The Sun about his future and here is what he had to say

“The ambition for every kid is to play at the highest level one day, whether that’s with Charlton or another club. That’s my goal. If I’m given the chance, like I have been here, then I believe I’ll take it.

“I sit in the bath and watch Youtube videos of Vardy and Callum Wilson. They have gone from non-league to the highest level and it fuels me to say, ‘Why can’t it be me?

“I want to write a story like Vardy, I’m on my own journey and I don’t want to waste time. I’ve still got a job to do at Charlton but the interest is flattering because I grew up on a council estate in Ipswich and used to play football on a basketball court with 30 mates.

“To go from that to being linked to Premier League clubs is overwhelming.

“Only a few years ago, I was playing at Maidstone, Maidenhead and Solihull Moors and grounds which didn’t even have stands so to play at the Emirates was an unbelievable experience. But it gave me a kick up the arse to think, ‘I want to be on that stage’.

“Charlton were a Premier League club not so long ago and that’s the only direction I want to see us going – up.”

It sounds like Bonne is going to be working harder than ever to get himself into the Premier League and he obviously has a lot of respect for Charlton he wants nothing but for us to succeed and I know he wants to do it with us most of all rather than jumping ship.

I feel like if he did it’s not something he entirely wants to do but I guess it’s something that he has to do, who knows when an offer like that might come along again, but he has got time to develop he is only 24 after all.

Would be great if Bonne is here for the long-term he will be here for the next few seasons hopefully but with the interest he is attracting we could face a battle to keep hold of him in the future.
