Lee Bowyer on the points deductions and how he wants Charlton to react to it

We are just one crucial win away from securing Championship football for next season as Wigan visit The Valley for tomorrow’s lunchtime clash.

Can you get 31/31 on this Charlton player of the year quiz? I bet you can’t, but feel free to prove me wrong!

Who won player of the year in 2020?

The Addicks were riding high when the season restarted after picking up seven points from their first three games since the season restart, unfortunately, the wins started to become extinct in Charlton’s bid for survival picking up three losses in the last four games.

Wigan who are currently fighting against a 12 point deduction after the club went into administration will be looking to pick up all three points which would take them far out of the relegation zone after the season finishes, so right now both teams are fighting for the same prize.

The Latics thrashed fellow relegation rivals Hull City 8-0 earlier in the week and whilst that might be an intimidating result to look at, I think we could still pick up a good result.

Addicks gaffer Lee Bowyer has stated that he does not want the side to rely on the points deductions that will be taking place once the season ends with teams such as Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday, Birmingham City and of course Wigan Athletic all being thrown into the mix.

Lee Bowyer spoke to Richard Cawley from The South London Press and here is what he had to say

“I’d rather us stay up on merit – we have earned that, if teams get points deductions then they get them. That will happen, I have no doubt. But we’ve got two games left and I still believe we’ll get enough points to stay in the division.”

It wouldn’t be a great sense of achievement if we were to stay up due to other team’s points deductions, it would feel kind of bittersweet, we didn’t do enough but were still here anyway, it would be weird to experience but it would be good to stay in the Championship.

The pressure on the next two games is huge for Charlton, but if we can come through with six points in the next two then it would be something to shout about!
