Lee Bowyer calls for EFL to take a look at the officiating in Charlton’s game against Reading

|

Charlton has once again been on the bad side of the referee as The Addicks lost out to Reading in yesterday’s lunchtime kick-off at The Valley as one goal and one penalty was ruled out by Darren Bond and the linesmen, which has been met with widespread criticism for the EFL official.

Can you get 25/25 on this former Charlton players quiz? I bet you can’t, but feel free to prove me wrong!

Who is this?

The fans and Lee Bowyer himself have all expressed their frustrations at the decisions that took place and when you look at it you know why the Charlton community are feeling hard done by.

Thing is Charlton didn’t have a bad game, most of the plays we were making could have had something on the end of it, I think we created an okay amount of chances compared to what we have done in some matches, but once again it wasn’t enough and the choices the ref was making didn’t help our morale going forward, in these situations it can feel like the world is against you.

The choices in question that infuriated Charlton was the Chuks Aneke ‘offside goal’ that was clearly onside and Jake Forster-Caskey’s ‘dive’ inside the penalty box when he was blatantly being dragged down. If the Reading penalty claim was in fact a penalty why wasn’t ours? Just simply not fair on us who are also battling against relegation.

Lee Bowyer spoke to Richard Cawley from The South London Press and here is what he had to say

“Decisions have cost us, the officials have cost us the game today. It’s plain and simple. Chuks Aneke – his goal, is a goal. I said to the fourth official, the linesman can’t just guess. You have to be 100 percent right on these decisions. These are big moments. There’s careers on the line at this stage of the season. My players gave everything and we haven’t got our rewards. If their penalty was a penalty, then so was ours. Jake got dragged to the floor, it’s a penalty. So, you’ve got the offside, you’ve got the penalty, big decisions.

“I’d love to see what the referee puts in his report because I know my report isn’t going to be good for him. Someone has got to have a look at these decisions today and something has to be done because that just wasn’t up to scratch. All of them, the ref and the two linesmen. They weren’t good enough today.”

That ‘someone’ that Lee Bowyer is mentioning there to look into it is clearly the EFL and we all know what their reputation is like, we all recognize that the result can’t be undone, but after what was going against us yesterday it would be an absolute disgrace to let Darren Bond go on unpunished from this game.

The events of yesterday need to be looked into, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t, it is the EFL we are dealing with after all.
