“Everything they tell you, just buzzes through you” Youngster pays tribute to Bowyer and Jackson

|

Through this rough injury period, we currently find ourselves in it opens up the opportunity for our youngsters to come in and ply their trade in front of The Valley faithful and youngster Alfie Doughty has done exactly that.

His blistering runs and young smarts have brought him into the first-team like he’s been here all season, he has gone from Hayes Lane of Bromley FC to The Valley in a matter of months and you can certainly see the buzz around him

Doughty spoke with the club website after the 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers and here is what he had to say

“I’m just grateful of every opportunity I get to be honest. I wasn’t actually expecting to start but I think this is my sixth game now. It was a bit of a page-turner if I’m honest with you and I wasn’t expecting it to come so soon. But I’m happy with my performances at the moment. And I just want to keep going to the best of my ability.”

Alfie continued

“I’ll just play anywhere to be honest with you. I mean I like the whole of the left side. I’ll play left-back, I’ll play left wing-back or left-wing. I played all three positions a lot recently. So I think, wherever they put me I’ll do my best and at the end of the day I don’t really mind where I play.”

It does sound as though Doughty is over the moon to be in the first-team squad and rightly so he has been a great player and also looked the best on the field at times, he will be our next youth breakout and that is without a doubt, if he can stay fit and keep playing like he is, he will be a regular in the coming months.

“I just want to try and keep getting better really. Whatever happens over the Christmas period I will just keep playing my football and doing my best and hopefully the gaffer sees that.

“Everything they [Bowyer and Jackson] tell you, you just have to listen to because of what they have been through and because they have played at the highest level. Whatever they tell us, you can tell it just buzzes through the changing room. I’m just trying to listen to them and get as much information as I can really.”

He sounds like he has the hunger in him to get better and better and you can see that with the way he plays on that football pitch, this lad is going to be a star!
