Bowyer reveals reason behind drastic decision

|

The 2-2 draw with QPR sure felt like a win even though it was a draw, but one Charlton man will be feeling less than pleased with himself after his performance at Loftus Road.

Ben Purrington was subbed off halfway through the first half after having a terrible start to the game, Bowyer explained that he needed his captain on the pitch to tighten up the defence and a good choice it was too.

Bowyer spoke with The News Shopper after the 2-2 draw and here is what he said

“Ben didn’t have a good start, he looked nervous, he’s looked like that for a while.

“Gave the ball away two or three times, he put their striker through. We looked very vulnerable at the back.

“They nearly went through the centre of us two or three times.

Bowyer continued

“I thought I need to put my captain on, sort it out defensively.

“Part of my job is to make decisions like that. Is it harsh to do it before half time?

“Of course, but my job is to win games, and put out the best side I can, I recognised that wasn’t the case so I changed it.

“When we did that we controlled a large part of the game and were the better side and created a lot of chances.”

I think with that decision may have seemed harsh, but it needed to be done in order to get something out of the game and Bowyer worked his magic once again as we came away with a point.

I have faith in Ben, we have all seen what he can do and he can defiantly do with the support of the fans through this period he is going through.
