Double Standards

For some time we were led to believe that all is well on the possible new recruits in the January window. We should have known better to build up our hopes on hear-say. For it has again become a red Herring with the usual uncertain attachments on why we could be facing a shaky future going into the second period of this term.

Leon Best who only played 10 minutes against Gillingham has suffered a bad knee injury that is going to keep him out for the rest of this season. He joins a list of casualties that has depleted our team massively.

We have signed Arsenals striker Stephy Mavididi on a loan deal until the end of this season. This was agreed before Katrien Meire stepped down who has now joined Sheffield Wednesday in the same role that was hers at Charlton.

Loan players don`t cut it with me. I have said this on several occasions. It is all very well bringing in a striker on a short term contract it cuts out a lot off unnecessary talking, but it don`t solve our immediate short fall that is very evident in our team and was reflected on performances in our last eight games.

If my memory serves me right, Stephy Mavididi did not have a real impact on the teams push and did not bring in an astounding performance either. He might have the name striker attached to his pedigree, but I don`t ever recall him scoring a goal for his last three loans spells, so what makes Robinson certain he will bring in the goods for the Addicks.

The January window is there for all who have the need to strengthen their squad. It looks by all account we are going to be left out again in bringing in a suitable player/s. What is the matter with Robinson? Can`t he see, there is no way in hell that we are going to make the play-off let alone the top two with what he has to work with?

There is far too much negativity coming out of the Valley, the front runner being, ‘`Are we or are we not going to be taken over“ I hear fraises with the words: ‘` we are in a difficult place“ what exactly does that mean! If this is referring to the talk of Duchatelet looking to sell the club, I for one can`t see what this has to do with our present predicament. We are in the now, which means the team is in dire need to be strengthened and any possible take-over or not should not interfere with a progress that is so openly being talked about constantly.

Why is our situation so difficult to understand? We need to sign a striker now on a permanent deal and not on loan. It takes weeks of playing together as a team to mould any new player to the Addicks playing formation. We have seen it all before. The enthusiasm might be there at the beginning, look what Dodoo gave in the very first game, but faded and has now returned to his first team.

No our situation will not improve while we have this attitude of not looking further into the long term. Wise up now, or forever be second best with the prospects of not advancing. To become bogged down which no one who had hoped for a better future would want.
