Charlton Cross The Boundary

On a cold and blustery afternoon Charlton did their job efficiently and for a few minutes it seemed as though they had done enough to gain promotion.

With Leeds down to ten men and losing, Millwall and Swindon all square, Miguel Llera’s soft free-kick seemingly sewing up the three points, the early minutes of the second-half were played in front of a euphoric away end.

Nicky Bailey had a simple tap-in to put the Addicks ahead midway hrough the first-half, following good work by Sam and Mooney.

Shortly after Llera’s goal Charlton should have scored a third when Bailey intercepted a weak back pass, rounded the keeper, and tried to squeze the ball home from an acute angle rather than square it for Mooney to tap in.

In the end results elsewhere meant Charlton will now need to tread the play-off path in their quest for an immediate return to the Championship. Swindon lie in wait.

We did what we had to, we couldn’t ask anymore could we but it wasn’t enough.
