One signing that Charlton have confirmed today is the arrival of Simon Francis from Southend United.

Francis has joined The Addicks for an initial fee of £35,000, that could rise to £75,000 for him to become our fifth signing of the summer.

Phil Parkinson has been tracking the right back since Frazer Richardson left SE7 for Southampton so is delighted to get his man, Parkinson told The Official Website: “As soon as we lost Frazer, Simon was the right-back we wanted.

“We’ve waited a long time to get this deal done. As always seems to be the case in life, sometimes you have to be patient to get the player you want.

“Obviously, he comes in a little bit behind in terms of fitness because he hasn’t been playing at Southend for contractual reasons, but it’s a terrific signing for the club.”

This is another piece of the jigsaw that Parkinson is trying to put together in place and with reports that at least one striker, possible two are on their way things are starting to look up at The Valley.

Seems that Chris Solly will lose out again. Hopefully, Francis will not help us to join his last Club in Division 2. 35k, my goodness, it wasn’t long ago that we were paying millions!

How times changed, £35,000 is a fortune to us now isn’t it but not as much as it would be to Southend!

He was their player of the year, as was Nicky Bailey, before he came to us, so hopefully we have another bargain here
