The unnamed striker that Charlton have been chasing has been revealed as Dagenham & Redbridge’s Paul Benson.

The Addicks have made two offers made for Benson, however The Daggers have rejected both as they’re short of the valuation that they have of the striker, Dagenham boss John Still told skysports.com: “Charlton have spoken to us and they have made two bids for Paul Benson.

“But the offers were nowhere near our valuation of Paul.”

Still insists that he wants to keep the 30-year-old but if the right offer comes in for the player and the club they’ll not stand in his way so he’s leaving the ball in our court, adding: “Absolutely we want to keep him as he is a quality player, but we have always been sensible in letting players move on.

“We will not stand in his way if the right offer is made and the move is right for Paul.

“We’ve left it with Charlton and we will see what they do next.”

Benson has scored 70 goals in 171 games for Dagenham since joining them in 2005 and these goals have helped The Daggers climb from The Conference into League 1. He knows where the goal is, however League 1 is a new level for him.
