Charlton academy coach expresses his desire to manage in the future

|

A name that has been talked about in Charlton for many years is Jason Euell, whether it is him scoring for Charlton or coaching the youth players to a decent level of play, the former Jamaican international has always served the club well and the time is coming for Euell to move into first-team management.

Can You Name These Current Charlton Academy Players? I bet you can’t but feel free to prove me wrong!

Who is this?

Euell has been coaching the youth sides at Charlton for 8 years now and has gained a valuable amount of experience at this troubled yet humble family club and Euell knows he’s part of that family, he knows how important it is to be seen in that light in Charlton and he is doing a good job at bringing in some youngsters to look at the same way.

Jason Euell spoke with Adam Bate from Sky Sports and here is what he had to say regarding his future in the game, he started off with how the players think of him as a coach and how to maintain their respect

“They had seen me playing for the club so you felt like you had already got them, they were going on YouTube and watching my goals. It made it easier.”

“I have to chop myself up into so many different people,” says Euell.

“You are the coach, the manager, the mentor, the role model, the best friend, the brother, the uncle. You are all of those different things to different people. Some might need an arm around them, others don’t. It is all about getting to know how to get the best from them.

“If you are a shouter then that will work for some but not for all because the players come from so many different backgrounds. You have to get it right for the individual you are working with. You might have to explain things differently in order to get them to respond.”

I feel like Euell is the kind of person who likes to be involved with the players a lot more than what some normally would, he has this feel about him that he is an extremely hard worker and that mainly stems from his days back at Wimbledon’s “Crazy Gang” it was hugely tiring times for Wimbledon and the club needed staff and players to be more present than ever to try and keep the club alive, a similar kind of situation to what we have here at Charlton, they were many people doing jobs they shouldn’t be, but they have to.

Euell also expressed his desire to work at the top level of management

“When I went into coaching, the ambition was to get to the top, that is what I wanted to do as a player and I was able to do it. That is where I see this leading too.

“I feel I have done it the right way in terms of the progression and the pathway.

“Nobody can say I have not got that qualification or this qualification. The only thing that can be thrown at me now is that I have not got the experience. Well, give me the chance to have that experience. That is the next step for me now.”

This time was always going to come for Euell and I certainly wish him well wherever he decides to ply his trade in the future, he has been a great servant to Charlton and deserves nothing but respect from The Valley faithful.

It’s going to be a shame missing his presence in the press box every home game, but times must change!
