Bowyer on his new contract, a new player contract and his confidence in the team ahead of Saturday

|

It’s Thursday which means it’s press conference day and today I attended Sparrows Lane training ground and asked Lee Bowyer a few questions ahead of Saturday’s promotion derby against 4th placed Portsmouth.

The first question I asked Lee how confident he is in his assistant Johnnie Jackson being on the sidelines

“Obviously I’m confident, it’s just a different voice putting the messages out there. I speak to Marshy and Jacko from where I am and it didn’t make any difference on Saturday I don’t think”

I then proceeded to ask him if he is confident that Charlton can win on Saturday

“Yeah for sure, we’ve already played them and we’ve already beat them, so I don’t see why we can’t do it again, were a good side. They’re a good side, but we have to compete and as long as we do that I think we got a good chance”

After that, I asked him about player contracts.

“Anfernee Dijksteel he’s close to signing, Joe Aribo we are obviously still working on that apart from that, that’s it”

I then asked him about what Steve Gallen said at the fans forum regarding Krystian Bielik after he said “Krystian loves the club” so what’s the probability of attracting a player like him if we failed to gain promotion

“I think it will be difficult to get Krystian back next season if we didn’t gain promotion, for sure”

Finally, I then asked if he’s heard anything on a new contract for him and Johnnie Jackson

“Someone who works for the owner approached me on Monday and said that they would like to offer me a new contract and they said they will come back to me, that’s where we are with that with Johnnie I don’t know”

It’s good that the contracts are getting sorted out I think that’s the main positive we can take from this press conference. I like that Bowyer if confident in Jacko on the sidelines, its good to see that unity between them its something we always need at Charlton.
