Addicks Go Through

Charlton needed second half goals from Darren Ambrose and Andy Reid to send the Addicks safely into the second round of the Carling Cup.

At a wind swept County Ground the Addicks had to put in plenty of effort to see themselves go through. The first half was a pain to watch and the wind prevented any real flowing football from either side. Swindon looked like scoring and the back four was busy with Nicky Weaver being called upon on more than one occasion.

Pardew had to give the boys a kick up the behind and when they came out in the second half they looked like a much more settled team.

Charlton came out of the traps quickest in the second period and Ambrose broke his duck after finishing off a fine team move. Marcus Bent did very well to head down a cross and Ambrose arrived on time to find the back of the net.

Charlton had a much better control on the game through out the half and a penalty from Reid made the result certain.

Izale McLeod was brought down in the Swindon penalty area and it was winger Andy Reid who calmly dispatched a twice-taken penalty. The first was disallowed due to Charlton players entering the box.

All in all it was a decent work out for the boys and gladly we are through the first round stage.
