What Lee Bowyer has said will either make you want to cheer, cry or both!

|

Since those disastrous dealings in the summer transfer window which led us all to believe Lee Bowyer had turned down a contract offer to stay at The Valley was U-turned after a crazy turn of events it would be a lie to say you’re not just a little bit paranoid about losing our star man.

In a recent interview with Daily Mail, the Charlton manager said some words that fans will absolutely love, it’s either going to make you cry, cheer or both. We will start with his frustration and get on to the bit that will give off all kinds of emotions here is what he had to say about his future

“I want to be here for a long time but unfortunately, you’re not always in control of your destiny, I have a one-year contract again this season. There is no stability and you’ll come to a point of how long can you keep doing it”.

“If Charlton offered me a three-year deal, you know you can build and make it successful. But what if am not given that opportunity here? At the moment, I am gambling every year. We had 13 players leave and had to find another 12 to stay in the league. How many times can you keep doing that?

“I felt disappointed for my staff as well as myself that we didn’t get the deals we deserved’ he says. ‘There will come a point of how long can this thing go on for.”

We all unfortunately know this all too well. Roland Duchatlelet has got a bit better at being an owner in the past couple months, but still not enough for a dramatic turnaround from the Belgian or enough to get the fans fully on his side.

Credit where credit is due for Roland he has backed a few transfers for Bowyer this summer and looks to have given a slight boost in the wage bill, but still not enough to do anything brilliant it’s just slightly better.

Bowyer also had something to say that fans are going to love

‘I want to be successful here. I have been loyal and turned down jobs but where is the loyalty coming back? It has to be both ways. There is give and take in every walk of life.

‘I want to be here. I want to get Charlton in the Premier League. I want to be like Curbs. I live in the area, my kids are at school and settled. Everything makes sense.’

When he says “I want to be like Curbs” I’m sure that sent a wave of emotions through every Charlton fan, the only problem is we still have a very unpredictable owner and just when we think everything is going well something bad happens and with everything we have been through in the last 5 years I think it’s about time we got a well-needed break from all the doom and gloom.

Since last season everything has felt different and thankfully this time in a good way. Since Steve Gallen got appointed to director, I think his main priority at the moment is securing Lyle on a new contract, because it will be a lot easier to tie Bows down than what it would be with Lyle and with him working on that I think the chances of us keeping that duo have increased significantly.

Only time will tell, but with people like Bowyer and Gallen at the helm, the future can only be bright.
