“They are looking sharper and improving” – Boss Talks About His Two Improving Strikers As A Hard Game Against Leeds Beckons

|

Our attacking options of late have not been great, after two games and no goals one begs the question, can we put it in the back of the net without Lyle Taylor?

We sure can create the chances, but its the finishing that’s been the problem. Without Lyle, we do have some good players in Tomer Hemed, Macauley Bonne, Jonathan Leko and Chuks Aneke, although none of them has stepped up to Taylor’s level of work rate and ability to finish which has shone through the lack of goals in the last two games.

Speaking with The News Shopper Lee Bowyer had this to say

“He’s a big part of us, but he’s not everything, losing Lyle is massive, his goals, assists, work rate, that’s the reality, it will be difficult, but we are still creating chances.

“Chances are falling to others that would be falling to Lyle. Maybe one or two he would’ve scored but the positive side is we are creating chances.”

Bowyer continued

“If we weren’t creating it’d be a worry for me, but the last two games we’ve created enough chances to get something out of the game, and I know we’ll create chances on Saturday because not everything goes through Lyle, sometimes he’s just on the end of it.”

With the creativity we possess it can only go so far, hopefully, in tomorrow’s game against Leeds United we can surprise them with our finishing as I’m sure we have been working on it in training over the past week as it has simply not been good enough.

Lee also mentioned Tomer Hemed and Macauley Bonne in his press conference yesterday

“We have good players. Tomer, he’s looking sharper, fitter and stronger, but we have to give him game time, he’s getting better.

“Macauley, he’s working hard and improving, his movement’s better, his hold up play and general play, his finishing, it’s all getting better.

“We’re moving in the right direction regarding Lyle’s replacement. We miss him, but we’ll be OK I’m sure.”

I hope he is looking fitter and sharper than what he was last weekend, let’s hope he can grab a goal Saturday and get his season off and running because he has clearly not been fit enough for the last few games and it has shown with his performances on the pitch.

With Bonne, he had a decent run-out against Wigan and he did alright, I would love to see Bowyer give him a go. You never know how good he can be in a game of this magnitude with the fans from both set’s singing loud and proud, it will be interesting.
