Michael Appleton was beaten in his first game as Blackburn manager by goals from Dale Stephens and Yann Kermorgant, though Jordan Rhodes did level things up for Rovers just after the break.

Charlton overcame a slow start to take the lead with a Stephens thunderbolt. Bolton born Stephens has made a habit of scoring spectacular goals against Lancashire clubs. The midfielder rescued a point at The Valley last season with a rocket against his first club, Bury. Saturday’s strike was with his weaker left foot.

Rhodes spurned one good opportunity before levelling three minuts into the second half. The Addicks weren’t to be denied though and secured the three points when Kermorgant headed home a Pritchard cross.
