The depth in midfield is great, but who will be going out on loan?

|

The competition for places is really starting to heat up in midfield as we now have 10 players who can play in the middle of the park. With the amount of quality, we have in that midfield the battles are going to be intense for the players as they will all have to work out of their skin to claim a place in the starting eleven.

I’m surprised with the number of players that we have got now, Charlton currently have 23 players and that will rise to 24 if the Tomer Hemed deal goes through which it realistically should do.

The squad was so tight last season that it feels like a luxury having 10 midfielders to choose from, but with so many for Lee to pick out who is going to go out on loan?

I think the obvious one is Albie Morgan, the gaffer said that he is not ready for the Championship yet and he will be going out on loan. At the time us Charlton fans kind of disagreed with this, but then after the Forest Green game, I think we all agreed with Bowyer that he needed to have a spell elsewhere to gain experience.

Also, a loan for half the season might be good for Jake Forster-Caskey he has been dishing out very sub-par performances as of late. We know he’s a good player he just needs to find that spark he used to have, unfortunately, it looks like this injury has left a lasting effect on him.

One man who is already out on loan is Taylor Maloney who is now at Newport County for the season, the young man has yet to make a league appearance, but he did start their Carabao Cup First Round victory against Gillingham.

He is one for the future, but right now we have a very talented midfield that is arguably one of the best in the league. We are very lucky we have Bowyer who is certainly the main attraction for these new signings.

So far, the season has been great, but to keep this form up I think a lot of it lies on how well the midfield perform. If they can keep consistent throughout games and work their socks off who knows how far we can go this season.
