Taylor talks Dillion Phillips’ game-changing save

|

Another weekend went and another game unbeaten as we swept aside a decent Plymouth team at Home Park and whilst there were some disappointing things off the pitch it was all positive on the pitch.

Plymouth were the better team for the first half-hour but thankfully Charlton found a way to come back after what looked like a certain goal for Plymouth, but on-form keeper and youth product Dillon Phillips was at hand or foot in this case to save the penalty and just 1 minute and 38 seconds later Lyle Taylor headed home.

The goalscorer himself was full of praise for Dillon Phillips after his penalty save as he spoke with Louis Mendez of Charlton Live and the South London Press

“It galvanises the team, a save like that, The fact that Dill pulled us out the proverbial was brilliant. We’ve got Dill to thank for these three points because it could have been so different going 1-0 down whilst being dominated. We’ll thank Dill for that and we’ll go again Tuesday.

Taylor continued

“For half-an-hour, if I’m completely honest with you, we got battered. We were expecting Plymouth to be good, we just could not impose ourselves on the game. Then you get the goal against the run of play after Dills saves a penalty and Freddie Ladapo misses an open goal from a knock-down from a corner. At that point, you think this might be our day. We hung in there when we had to and the defending was brilliant.”

It was a real team effort on Saturday and I really hope we see more just like it, Dillion was excellent as he got his 3rd clean sheet in a row and he is has made such an improvement since the beginning of the season and is looking like he could be our number one for quite some time and I honestly really hope he is because he is improving with every single game. No wonder Lyle had so much praise for him because what he did change the game!
