Pardew Targets Top Two Finish

Prior to the Saturday evening’s 2-0 victory over Preston, Addicks boss Alan Pardew had spoken about the target of getting into the top two in the Championship this season.

Before the match with the Lilywhites Alan Pardew had told the Addicks Website: “Until we can’t mathematically win the league, we’ll be trying to win it. You have to aim for the top and see where you fall.

“At the moment we’re third, and after that many games that’s where we deserve to be. In the end, we hope to be second or first.”

If Alan Pardew had such high hopes before the win over the Lilywhites (a match in which the Addicks again scored late goals in either half through Zheng Zhi and Luke Varney) he must be even higher hopes now, as Watford lost so we are now only five points behind them, but still in third though after West Brom drew on Sunday.

What is the thought among the Addicks followers on this site on Alan Pardew’s thought? The top two has to be the aim doesn’t it, winning the Title must be an aim too surely? Share these feelings below so we can discuss them.

A return to the Premier League is crucial, I would settle for second but Watford might have looked like they were going to run away with it, but maybe it will not be all their own way. I’ve never doubted that we will go straight back up, but think we could win the Title as well.

long way to go yet…………..will cost him his job I think if you do not go up this season…………..

You really think it will? Why? If there is one man who can do it, he’s that man 🙂

  • Charlton Addickt says:

There is a long way to go but promotion back to the Premier League has always been the target. Failure to achieve this (which I don’t think will be the case) could, but probably won’t cost him his job, and nor should it. If we finished in midtable or lower, that would be different.

But that’s not going to happen is it? Even despite tonights result against The Blades LOL

  • Charlton Addickt says:

Setbacks will happen along the way wont they, but it will still be achieved.

Three horse race for the top two places: Watford, Charlton, West Brom…

  • Pardew is Sexy says:

Setbacks – yes it’s just how we react to them isn’t it? Will still be achieved is certainly the right attitude to have 🙂

  • Charlton Addickt says:

I don’t think that Wolves and maybe Ipswich can be counted out either though, the Blades seem to be improving?

  • StevieG Col U says:

Well the champ is such an even league alot of teams are up there…even teams like Southampton, Bristol, Barnsley, Plymouth, Leicester can all be counted….if they hit top gear… 🙂

  • Charlton Addickt says:

Very true, anyone can beat anyone else on their day in this League can’t they, as we have seen on many occassion already. It’s a good competitive League to be in isn’t it (obviously though I hope the Addicks aren’t in it for long!)

  • StevieG Col U says:

    Yeah you’ll go up-automatic or play-offs…

  • Pardew is Sexy says:

Haha I do admire your confidence StevieG 🙂
