Mills’ Charlton Career Finished?

Danny Mills’ Addicks career could be finished after he was sent off during our 1-1 draw with Hull on Saturday.

The Manchester City defender returned to the Valley on loan last summer but with his loan set to expire at the end of the year and an agreement with the club that own him unable to be agreed it looks like he will be returning to his parent club: “As I approach my final week at Charlton I felt this to be the right time to reflect on what has been from a footballing point of view an enjoyable last 5 months,” Danny Mills told his website.

“My departure after the game at Leicester will certainly be tinged with a degree of sadness and I hope the fans will feel I have given them every bit as much commitment as when I last played for this club. Initially we had hoped to be in a position whereby we could agree a permanent move, but unfortunately this does not seem to be possible and with no resolution on the horizon, I will now be returning to Manchester at the end of this month.”

The sending off (the seventh of his career) against the Tigers means that Danny Mills will now be suspended for three matches, so unless a new deal can be arranged his second spell at the Valley will end on a very sour note.

Danny Mills’ sending off came for foul and abusive language towards the referee, something that Alan Pardew wasn’t amused with so Danny Mills will be finned by the club and this could make up the bosses mind on whether or not he really wants to keep pursuing the deal any further anyway: “I’m going to talk with my chairman Richard Murray and my assistant Phil Parkinson and absorb the events of today,” Alan Pardew said.

“In all honesty, I don’t want my team to act in that manner.

“Danny Mills is a someone who plays on the edge but that doesn’t excuse what happened today.

“He’s got to be big enough and bold enough to take that on the chin.”

You just couldn’t keep Danny Mills out of the news on Saturday, and Tigers boss Phil Brown also had something to say. He felt that the former England international got his comeuppance for his “simulation” and other antics during the match anyway: “Simulation is a key factor in any game of football,” Phil Brown told Sky Sports.

“If the referee gets his decisions right, the yellow and red cards go the right way.

“The simulation that happened in the first half – a suggested elbowing incident – was a bit naughty of the player, who was trying to get one of our players booked or sent off.

“Consequently, he got his comeuppance in the second half.”

Danny Mills has complained recently that he has been targeted by referees and his reputation goes against him, but he often doesn’t help himself and he certainly didn’t against the Tigers, and this could well put the icing on the cake as far as an extension/permanent return at the Valley goes?
