Matt Smith’s first words as a Charlton player

|

We have finally got our midfielder after John Bostock’s deal turned south as a “row” stirred up at Toulouse over letting him come to Charlton for the rest of the season, but nevertheless we have now got 20-year-old Matt Smith on loan from Manchester City.

Who was Charlton's first-ever manager?

I have been hearing good things about Smith, he sounds like an energetic player who has a point to prove at this level after a successful loan spell in the Dutch second division.

Matt Smith spoke with the club website after he sealed his move to Charlton and here is what he has to say

“It’s a wonderful football club with a lot of history, I just can’t wait to get going. I’ve come here to try and get an opportunity to play and prove to everyone that I can do it at this level.

“I spoke to Locks [Tom Lockyer] and he just told me what an amazing football club it is and that the feel for the club is really nice which helped me make the decision to join this club.”

He sounds like he’s hungry for success here and with Tom Lockyer, Jonny Williams and Adam Matthews around the Welshman he will sure be feeling at home in Sparrows Lane adding more Welsh blood into the squad.

With just eight appearances for Queens Park Rangers this season Smith will be raring to go and show everyone what he can do in the Championship, let’s hope he can follow in the footsteps of many past young loanees.
