Lyle Taylor talks Saturday’s win

|

Seems like a long while ago we last saw Lyle Taylor on the scoresheet, in fact, last time he scored was the 12th of January so it has been a while, however, he has been serving a three-game suspension during that time for a red card against Accrington Stanley and the team have also been reshaped since Karlan Grant left for Huddersfield Town to go and play Premier League football.

Lyle is a fan favourite and everyone knows it, he has time for the fans and we all love him for it. It was good to see him back on the scoresheet as he stabbed in his 13th goal of the season after Ben Reeves laid him off in front of the six-yard box.

Lyle spoke with the South London Press after the game and he had this to say about his recent goalscoring record or lack-of

“It’s been an annoying one for me. I had Lapslie block one on the line at Wimbledon and I hit the post at Doncaster – I had a message today on Instagram or Twitter, I can’t remember which, saying today’s the day it goes in the back of the net. It worked out that way. But Igor blocked one from Josh.

The whole point was to perform. We performed under massive, massive pressure and got the points. We’ve got 10 games left and we’ve got an outside chance of automatic – but an outside chance is a chance, so why not?”

It must be a huge relief for Taylor to finally get that goal he needed so bad, but as we go on to the Burton game on Tuesday, Taylor needs to really keep his head down and not get booked otherwise he will be serving a two-game suspension and with just ten games left to play we need every able body putting in a shift.
