Lyle Taylor contract situation: Will Roland get his wallet out?

|

Last night Lyle Taylor made it four from four as a Jonathan Leko cross met his head on the edge of the six-yard box to put the Addicks 1-0 up after 18 minutes.

Lyle also earned himself the captain’s armband yesterday which will probably be the first of many games we see him in that commanding role.

I attended the press conference after the Forest game and Lee Bowyer didn’t provide too much hope of keeping Lyle in the upcoming January transfer window

“I think it will be impossible to keep him, we started discussions before the deadline, but it’s tough when you have other clubs offering what they do in this division.

“How can we compete? We can’t. That’s the reality of it.

“But we have him at the moment and he’s scored four in four. I’m just going to enjoy working with him whilst I can.

“That’s the nature of the game, if he goes and scores ten goals between now and January, someone will obviously come in with probably more than what they offered in the summer.”

It sounds to me that Bowyer is not confident of retaining Lyle Taylor’s signature, which is not a big surprise as I am expecting him to leave in January.

I obviously don’t want him to go, but with his age getting on and a contract offer of around 20-24k it’s going to be hard for him to turn that down or for us to top that.

I think in his heart of hearts he would rather stay at Charlton, but to secure his future financially it would be a good move for him and with the financial climate in football nowadays I think that Lyle deserves a much better contract than what he already has, 6k a week for a Championship striker is not that great.

If Roland wants to get on the fans side, now is the best time to act on it. Offer Lyle that contract he deserves and we don’t have to worry about letting him go in January as he will sign that contract if the Belgian can match Brentford’s bid.

For Duchatelet it would be nothing more than a drop in the ocean with the money he would ‘lose’ by offering Lyle a real Championship wage, so let’s hope he pulls his finger out and gets the job done.

Not only Lyles contract, Bowyer is only on a one year contract some bigger clubs will be looking at getting him on the cheap, Roland made one mistake with the Aribo contract ,he went for 300k now saying he could be a £ 20 million player in the future.
