Lee Bowyer makes admission over Charlton’s finances

|

It’s not easy being a Charlton fan and it’s certainly not any easier working for the club either as the Coronavirus pandemic has put much of Charlton’s staff in furlough, but that’s not the root to our problems, as we all know Tahnoon Nimer is still yet to shed any real evidence that he wants to inject money into Charlton as the last of the cash looks to be running out by the end of the month.

Can You Name These Current Charlton Academy Players? I bet you can’t but feel free to prove me wrong!

Who is this?

This situation with Nimer has also made it impossible for the Addicks to oversee Conronavirus tests every two days which is something the EFL and Premier League are expecting clubs to carry out.

Lee Bowyer spoke with The South London Press and here is what he had to say regarding the financial situation at Charlton

“If we are expected to buy kits for each player to be tested twice a week, we cannot afford it – not every two days.

“Those tests are not going to be an option, unless the EFL pays for them. But would they do that for every club? “We are trying to save as much money as we can because it has become a difficult situation.

“We are going hand-to-month. Last month we got paid. If we aren’t this month, it becomes a worry. That will show we are in big trouble.”

“Owner Tahnoon Nimer has said he will stand by us. Directors Marian Mihail and Claudiu Florica are in contact with him – I have not spoken to Tahnoon in a while – and they say he is standing by the club.

“All we can do is hope he steps up.”

If no one gets paid this month then we are going to go down the same road as Bury and we all know how that turned out for them, but worryingly enough it does feel like it is going down a rather sinister route for Charlton.

If Tahnoon is who he says he is he would have put money in by now and assured the fans that there is nothing to worry about and the future is secure, but it seems as though the EFL have let another owner who doesn’t care about the club or the culture into our lives once again.

I just don’t get how they could let ESI takeover the club without a real proof of funds being provided first. ESI purchased the club for £1 back in January and by the looks of it even I could have bought Charlton if I didn’t need to prove how much money I had before I bought the club for that measly sum.

If the EFL carry on this reckless way with its football clubs, we could see a lot more drop out of the leagues in the near future, hopefully we will not be one of those clubs.

Good grief! Talk about being frank. If that is what the manager is willing to say in public then Charlton really are in a bad way. I know it’s easy to blame the EFL and other such football authorities for almost all football’s ills but in this case it’s justified.

I’m not sure about Lee Bowyer’s “culture” reference. For years it seems to have been culturally ok to let any conman, or two, buy and/or run our football clubs. The German model of football club governanace gets more attractive by the week.
