Lee Bowyer calls on his players to become ‘heroes’ as the season restarts tomorrow

|

The pressures of staying up will come into full swing tomorrow afternoon as Charlton travel up to Hull City to resume the season and take part in a relegation six-pointer that The Addicks cannot afford to lose.

Can you name every league position Charlton has finished in within the last 20 years? I bet you can’t but feel free to prove me wrong!

Where did Charlton finish in the 2019/20 season?

The next nine is going to need some real Charlton heroes, if we manage to stay up this season it will be another memorable team that worked hard and showed quality when we needed it most.

Last season was a prime example of Charlton heroes as we got promoted via the playoffs in a dramatic ending to the final against Sunderland at Wembley.

Bowyer hailed his team as heroes after that in a dressing room talk after the final and it looked like there was such a great togetherness in that team and we need that to be recreated.

Lee Bowyer spoke with Toby Porter from The South London Press and here is what he had to say

“It is a time for heroes, some will play more than others – that’s natural.

“It could be someone coming off the bench. Someone stepping into Lyle Taylor’s shoes and scoring goals. Everyone can play their part because of the number of games in a short space of time.

“Someone could step forward – or all of them, because it will take a group effort. They will all be heroes if we can turn this around. I always demand leadership across the park. We are not going to win all nine games. It is about how you cope if you lose one.

“This weekend is important because we can climb above Hull. But one game won’t define where we finish. We have to perform in all nine. If we do the right things, we will turn this around.”

Bowyer needs every man to be on the top of his game going into this final nine, normally I would say to the fans make sure you get down there in numbers and sing your hearts out, unfortunately, it’s behind closed doors as we all know.

All you can do is support The Addicks from your household like I will be doing, never wanted to see football like the way it is now with no fans but hopefully, this won’t last for long.
