Jason Euell and Chris Powell join the England National squads

|

Former Charlton manager Chris Powell has just signed up to Gareth Southgate’s backroom staff at England as he joins with five other new coaches, this was made possible by the Elite Coach Placement Programme.

The 49-year-old led Charlton to one of the most memorable seasons of all time after smashing League One with 101 points as we ran away with the title.

Chris will be with Southgate’s senior squad which could even open up the manager’s job for Powell at some point in his career as it did for Southgate, it would be strange seeing Chris in a position like that after a not so popular job at Southend United as they avoided relegation last season after Powell’s sacking.

Charlton academy coach Jason Euell will be working with the England U20s this season alongside Keith Downing as Euell’s brilliant work with the Addicks youngsters starts to gain some attention in the Three Lions set up as he gets a promotion from the U18s.

I am very happy for the both of them, but as an Irishman, I’m not happy about this because England is going to be playing like prime Brazil for the foreseeable future. However, if Powell still has his job at Southend haunting him every night then it won’t be so bad (for the Irish).

Of course, I’m just joking, but seriously fair play to Powell and Euell I think they could really do something great with their careers here and personally for them I hope they do well because Chris is in need of a revival and this could be a great role to get his reputation back up.
