Gillingham boss Mark Stimson has admitted that he would like to sign on loan Addicks striker Chris Dickson permanently but concedes the Gills might not be able to afford him, even if they could.

Chris Dickson has been in fine form in front of goal for the Gills during his loan spell (scoring seven in nine matches), and has displayed a great maturity in his comments, which do always seem to intimate that he does want to return to the Valley. However this doesn’t meant that Mark Stimson wouldn’t want to sign him if he can, but with his loan due to expire next weekend the Gills will look to extend it again but then a decision must be made, will he return or will he be sold? If he does the Gills do not feel they will be able to afford him: “He hasn’t stopped scoring goals for us,” said Mark Stimson.

“His loan expires after the Hartlepool game [next weekend] and if we take him again, which I hope we can do as I think he is a big player for us, we can get him for another month only.

“Then a decision has to be made. The more he scores, he harder it will be to keep him as there will be bigger fish looking at him.”

It is likely that Alan Pardew will allow him to stay on loan for another month, but I do hope that he is not sold, but money often talks and if it isn’t believed that he has a future at the Valley then if the right offer comes in he will be allowed to leave, but I personally do not think that he will be sold anyway (well not yet!)

What is the thought among the Addicks followers on this site on Mark Stimson’s thoughts? it is easy to see why the Gills would want to keep him, but will they, will anyone, or will he still forge out a career at the Valley? Share these feelings below so we can discuss them.
