Charlton manager Lee Bowyer disappointed that Addicks did not score more against Hull

|

The Addicks are looking to get back to back wins when Queens Park Rangers visit The Valley on Friday lunchtime, as Lee Bowyer tries his best to keep his players in the good place they are in right now after shooting themselves out of the relegation zone by beating Hull last weekend.

Who was Charlton's first-ever manager?

There was one thing that Bowyer didn’t like about the Hull game and that was that we didn’t score more, he feels strongly that we could have got another few goals if we took our chances and that seems to be Bowyer’s only issue so I’m guessing that a lot of finishing work has gone into the strikers this week at Sparrows Lane.

Macauley Bonne is someone who can become a hero with the next eight games, he does have the ability to get forward and score goals, but we haven’t seen a goal from him in the last seven matches so he needs to find his form in front of goal again, however Tomer Hemed and Chuks Aneke looked very good against The Tigers so who knows they might have a shot at redemption.

Lee Bowyer spoke to The South London Press ahead of the QPR game and here is what he had to say

“Before the [Hull] game I said to the players: ‘You are in a good place, you are ready – go and take this opportunity’, they did that.

“Against QPR it will be the same. We have to stop them playing. And if we do those simple things, we will have more opportunities.

“My only issue is that we have to take our chances. We should have scored at least two more at Hull – and that is being kind. If we had walked off at the break with two or three more, I don’t think anyone would have said anything.

“That was the only disappointing thing. Hopefully, we have saved those up for the other games.”

He is right, the goals need to increase if we are only going to win 1-0 against arguably one of the worst teams in the league imagine how we would fair against Leeds, for example, it doesn’t paint a pretty picture.

I know that both teams were fighting for their lives when we played them on the season restart, but we had a lot of opportunities to score a few more goals, Bowyer will work on that with the players guaranteed.

Let’s hope for a 3-0 win against QPR if Bowyer wants to start taking those opportunities!
