Charlton have injury woes ahead of London derby

|

A big game is approaching, on Saturday The Charlton fans will travel across the river to south-west London’s Fulham where we will be looking to bounce back after a 2-1 defeat to Swansea last night, however that is not the only worry.

Left-back Ben Purrington came off last night and was replaced by Jake Forster-Caskey, the injury is not thought to be his calf where he had a slight knock, but apparently it’s his groin that’s the problem.

Speaking with The South London Press Lee Bowyer had this to say

“I’m guessing Ben is out. He came off with something wrong with his groin.

“We’ve got Deji, he can slot across, Chris Solly has played there a lot last year when Pagey was out. We have got some options. Adam Matthews has played there in the past for Sunderland.”

Last night Adam Matthews made his debut for the club and although he didn’t set the pitch on fire, it was his first game and we should be willing to give him a chance to ply his trade.

If he can go into Left-back and do a decent job whilst Ben is out then I’m sure a lot of fans will get on his side as I did see a few fans losing patience with him if you can call it that.

Lee Bowyer also touched on the Lewis Page situation as he has not played a first-team game in the last year and its situations like this where we will be missing him a lot.

“Nothing has changed on my side – I’ve told the physio to tell me when he’s back training, I know he is out of the boot now, I saw him a couple of days ago.

“It is a conversation I’m going to have to have with the physio, because he signed a contract a year ago and he hasn’t played since. It’s not good.

“He is not going to hit that target. It is his Achilles. He was out with a hamstring in pre-season and was meant to be out for two weeks – the same as Chuks, they both did it in the same game. Chuks came back and Pagey hasn’t been back since. It’s mind-boggling. I don’t get it.”
