Charlton announce departure of cult hero – Fan favourite gets a new contract offer

|

Charlton have today announced the departures of three players Tomer Hemed, Lewis Page and Naby Sarr after the expiration of their contract, I have to say the first two I can understand, but it is a real shame that Naby has gone.

Can you get 100% on This Charlton quiz? See if you can name the club that these players moved to after Charlton.

Naby Sarr’s departure will surely strike Charlton fan’s hearts as the cult hero leaves The Valley after five years.

However Naby was not always a hero to Charlton fans, back when Roland Duchatelet and Katrien Merie were in charge he was a bit of a subject to hate from supporters, but he managed to win over fans in the last two seasons cemeting his place in the side and winning the hearts of fans for his penetrating runs through the middle, great footwork on the ball and that positive smile he always had on him.

I did hear at some point from the players personal point of veiw that Naby was the best player in the side, he may not have shown it all the time on matchdays as his performances were not entirely consistant, but you could see that he was something special.

I think wages are the reason for this as Naby earned somewhere near 8k a week at Charlton and with the restrictions taking place and money being an issue we can’t afford to pay

Whilst this is bad news for most, we do have something to give you all some hope as Adam Matthews has been offered a new contract as we all hope the right-back will come back with us and provide the great service down the right like he did lasft season, leaving him a favourite amongst fans.

Good luck to Tomer Hemed, Lewis Page and Naby Sarr I wish you all well in the future and to Adam Matthews get that deal done!!!

  • Alan says:

It would have been great,if he could defend. No loss

  • Michael says:

If thatmeans he did not justhoof it up like the others no only defender who could play it out of defence and scored more, than a certain horizontal “attacking midfielder”.
