Bowyer’s former teammate training with the Addicks

|

Last week in Lee Bowyer’s press conference he mentioned that he will be looking at the free-agent market to bring in a right-back as he didn’t want to use a loan on a full-back. Rumours are likely to start circulating but now we have a player that will be training with us this week.

One of Lee Bowyer’s former West Ham teammates Tyrone Mears will be training with us this week with the hope of securing a contract at Charlton. Mears is 36-years-old so he is no spring chicken, but what he will bring is maturity and experience to a squad already full of leaders.

Starting his career at Manchester City, Mears played alongside Bowyer at The Hammers between 2006-2007 the season Charlton was relegated from the Premier League. Bowyer speaks highly of his former teammate and speaking with South London Press’ Richard Cawley Lee had this to say

“I played with Tyrone at West Ham and he will train with us for a week, we will just look at him fitness-wise. He is a fit lad anyway and still quick he was rapid when I played with him. He can’t be far off it.”

By the sounds of it, he will be someone who can get forward nice and quick and I think right now that’s something we are lacking on the right flank. As much as I love Chris Solly he just can’t do the fast game anymore, I feel as though he’s legs are not far from giving up on him, but still he is good to have around the club regardless and he can do a job when called upon, but I think this transfer will give Solly a lot more to fight for and hopefully his body is up for the challenge.

Mears has recently been released by West Brom and he will link up with two of his former teammates in Jonathan Leko and Sam Field, it’s starting to look like Bowyer’s favourite place to shop and if Tyrone is as good as what Leko was on Saturday we could be in for a surprise treat with this potential signing.
