Bowyer reveals new right-back training with the club

|

The search for a new right-back continues as manager Lee Bowyer announced today that there is also another one training with us alongside Tyrone Mears and that is former Sunderland and Celtic man Adam Matthews.

The 27-year-old was revealed today by Lee Bowyer at his weekly press conference to be training at the club, here is what he had to say today about Adam Matthews

“Adam was at Sunderland last year, he’s a Welsh international. He’s 27 a bit younger than Tyrone, but they are two good players who are trying to compete for the same position”

I remember Adam better with his time at Celtic, the fans took very well to the former Cardiff man who ended up surpassing 100 league appearances for The Hoops and he earned himself a move to then Premier League club, Sunderland who are best remembered by us for a certain couple games that may or may not be in our fans memories.

During his time at The Black Cats he has seen them go from the top flight to the third division in the shortest space of time, but after two loan spells to Bristol City, Jack Ross decided not to renew Matthews contract.

Personally, I would like to see Adam at Charlton. He is a player that once kept Lionel Messi on his toes and could be the third acquisition to feature for Charlton from the Celtic team that famously beat Barcelona 2-1 the other two is, of course, Tony Watt and new loan signing Beram Kayal.

The quality is there and a manager like Lee Bowyer could bring his game back out on to the pitch in fine style, let’s hope he can turn his career around.
