Bowyer is full of praise for Charlton outcasts

|

When you talk about players who have fallen out of the frame at Charlton this season two names that spring to mind are Tomer Hemed and Chuls Aneke, however, yesterday they showed that they can put in the decent shift in the Championship and can cope with the pressure of Charlton’s future being at stake.

Can you get 31/31 on this Charlton player of the year quiz? I bet you can’t, but feel free to prove me wrong!

Who won player of the year in 2020?

Hemed looked a lot more alive and confident yesterday, but in other performances, you can see him not doing much or whenever he has the opportunity to pass or shoot he normally fluffs it, but yesterday I have to say he had a great game compared to other performances and he should be feeling confident after an outing like he had.

Chuks Aneke, on the other hand, was expected to offer us quite to as in terms of strength in the attacking third when he signed for us in the summer and when he came on yesterday he showed his worth and we got exactly what we wanted from him in terms of creating chances and being a threat on the pitch, which is not something we have seen a lot of from him.

Lee Bowyer spoke to the club’s website after the game and here is what he had to say

“Tomer Hemed, that’s only his second or third start for us, I thought he worked really hard for us. I thought, him, Macca, everyone worked as a team and you could tell how hungry they were to win.

“Fair play to Chuks, on Thursday, he wasn’t down to travel with us but he came up to me. We were going to give him a few extra days to make sure he was over a little groin problem he had but he came up to me and said ‘I want to be part of this’ and that is what we need, people who are willing to put their body on the line and fight. Chuks did that today. Him and Jonny Williams coming off the bench were excellent, they worked so hard. Chuks caused them problems.”

These two can be so important to us going forward we know both of them have a history of scoring goals but they just need find that confidence to get in front of goal and score with ease because with what we have seen of them before this game it just doesn’t look like it comes naturally to them being upfront.

Confidence is what strikers thrive off and I think these two can go into the rest of the season knowing that they can cause problems for teams in this league, but we just need to see some goals coming from them as just one league goal has been scored between the two of them so far this campaign.

I think they will take this performance and apply it into the other matches, in fact they have to they have no choice, we need everyone to be on the very top of their game and hopefully at some point these two can supply the goals that will keep us up.
