Bowyer intrested in taking back keeper

|

Former Charlton loanee Ben Amos has reportedly attracted a lot of interest from manager Lee Bowyer. Amos was the first-choice goalkeeper in the 17/18season in which saw us reach the playoffs. South London Press understands that Bowyer is looking at the former Manchester United man as his contract at Bolton runs out at the end of the month and could be one of the host of expected free agents to join the club.

THE FACTS

Ben Amos had a battle with David Martin in the Millwall goal last season and it will be the same again this season if he was to join us. Dillon Philips will be first-choice, but with the competition for places hotting up as we find some suitable candidates, this move could bolster Phillips’ development even more.

Lee Bowyer spoke about the potential signing to Richard Cawley of the South London Press, here is what he had to say

“Ben is one of the ones we are trying to work on, but he was on a hell of a lot of money, so it’s just whether he is prepared to go down to what we are going to offer. We’re just trying to persuade him, he did a great job for us before. He loved it here at the club and the fans took to him.

“He has the experience and has played in the division. He knows what we’re like as a club. It is the perfect fit. We do need some experienced players in that division, for sure. Ben is a confidence player. Ben had a rocky start to the season with us and then he got better and better as the season went on.”

MY OPINION

Taking Ben back would be brilliant for us and brilliant for the competition in the goal. Right now Phillips is miles ahead of Ashley Maynard-Brewer and he won’t provide the push Dillon needs, so an experienced keeper is essential for the Championship.

Amos will have a lot to do to get ahead of Dillion who has been superb in goal for Charlton in League One. Ben will have a challenging time if he comes to Charlton, but hopefully he likes a challenge. The only problem could be the wages as Bowyer stated he will need to take a pay cut to what we can offer him, but still surely what we can offer him is better than what Bolton is offering their players at the moment.

We will just have to wait it out for this one, but I can see this signing happening.
