Bowyer gives his assessment on young winger

|

Since the heartbreaking news about Jonathan Leko’s injury came out, we ended up replacing him with Aston Villa winger Andre Green who I think is a very good player.

I’m excited to see him in league action this coming Saturday against West Brom as he faces his parent clubs local rivals as Charlton start the new era under East Street Investments.

Speaking with The South London Press Charlton manager Lee Bowyer spoke about his performance in the West Brom game

“He did well, you can tell he is a big game rusty but we tried to get the ball to his feet. He was positive and he took people on.

“Then we moved him up front in the second half and we put him as a second striker in a change to the system. He did well there too. He is a threat in behind, a bit like we’ve had with [Jonathan] Leko and Karlan [Grant]. That’s how I see him, as one who can play out wide and up top.

“I look forward to working with him. I definitely see that we can improve him. Once he gets minutes under his belt he will just get better and better.”

After playing just 86 minutes of football for Preston North End, Green will be happy with being chucked into the team straight away by Lee Bowyer, but really did he have any other choice?

Of course Green has the quality to succeed in this league, but after not playing much football this season he did look slightly rusty, but good at the same time. Once he’s up to speed he will be a great player for us.
