Alfie Doughty impresses Bowyer in certain areas, but still a lot to work on

|

Tuesday night’s game against Forest Green Rovers saw The Addicks play out a poor performance against England’s only vegan team. The Green’s held us to a 0-0 draw although they won 5-3 on penalties. For, one youngster stood out amongst the rest and that was 19-year-old Alfie Doughty.

This young man has bags of potential, he is quick and looks as though he loves to get forward and attack. From what I saw of him yesterday he did very well in left-back by working very hard up and down the flanks.

I did see him move out of position a few times, but he did well whilst he was out of his left-back area to keep possession and move the ball on to another player. I thought he had a good energy about him, give it a couple of years and he will be in the first-team a lot I think.

I was with Lee Bowyer last night and I asked him what he rated about Alfie’s performance.

“He had good energy, not the best final ball. I can’t remember him picking anyone out, but he got into some good areas and the most pleasing thing for me with Alfie is when he did give the ball away, he reacted to go and win it back.”

“Out of the young ones I would say he was the better one”

The only thing I have to disagree with Bowyer on this one is that I saw him pick out players a  of times in the box one of them was Albie Morgan where he swung a cross in, but he could only stretch for it and it ended up going wide, I felt Albie could have done better with that.

Overall a decent performance from Alfie and I really hope he keeps it up because he is already looking like a decent player who could play at League Two level easily.
