Bowyer starts to grow frustrated with Page’s injuries

|

Lewis Page has not featured so far this season since he suffered an injury against Gillingham in pre-season. Unfortunately, Page is still not close to recovering and Lee Bowyer is starting to lose patience with the full-back.

Lewis definitely has it in the locker, his only problem is the injuries he gets. Whenever he suffers an injury it seems to drag on longer than what it is expected to be, but what could the reasoning be behind this?

It could be one of two things, one it could be that Lewis’ body is giving up on him in the early stages of his career and maybe his body is just not cut-out for professional football which would be a real shame for the former West Ham lad.

Two, it could be that Lewis isn’t cooperating with the rehabilitation process correctly and there’s something behind the scenes that he is doing wrong, which would obviously be Lewis’ fault as to why he takes so long to recover.

After just 27 appearances since January 2017, it’s understandable why the gaffer is not happy with how Lewis’ injuries are setting him back. His last appearance was in October as we played out a great game but unfortunately lost out in a 5-3 defeat to Scunthorpe. Lewis was replaced after five minutes into this game by Anfenee Dijksteel.

Speaking with South London Press’ Richard Cawley after the game Bowyer had this to say on the Page situation.

“I don’t know what is going on with Pagey. The physio rang me Sunday and told me that he is starting to run outside but there is something wrong.

“So I just said to him now ‘Just tell me when Pagey is going to train, I don’t want to hear anymore that something is wrong, something is wrong’. I just want to hear when Pagey is training because it is happening too many times. That’s the situation with Pagey.”

A frustrating and hard situation for any manager and physio team to be involved in because with the way it’s going right now it’s taking him out for a huge part of his development and that will restrict him from being the best he can possibly be.

You have to feel for Lewis, but if this carries on he will need to be transferred away from The Valley in very unfortunate circumstances. Something I hope won’t happen.
