Charlton’s League 1 game against Walsall has been rearranged again following safety concerns.

The game was called off last Saturday due to a frozen pitch but rearranged for Tuesday January 19 but has been changed again to Tuesday 2 February with a 7.45pm kick-off.

A statement on The Official Walsall Website said: “A four-day event, encompassing the Bonser Suite, Stadium Suite and Swifts Lounge, which the club is contractually obliged to honour, is taking place at the Banks’ Stadium during the week commencing Monday, January 18th.

“Initially, the club had procedures in place for the event to be condensed to the Stadium Suite and Savoy Lounge for the evening of Tuesday, January 19th in order to enable the football match to take place simultaneously.

“However, after lengthy consultation, these two areas must be accessible to the public throughout the entirety of the game in the event of the stadium needing to be evacuated.

“As the club could not meet the terms and conditions of their safety certificate, and is legally bound by the terms and conditions of the four-day event, it was with regret that a new date had to be sought.

“With Charlton playing on Monday, January 25th, and the Saddlers having first-team commitments for every midweek in February other than the week commencing Monday, February 1st, it has been agreed that the tie will now take place on Tuesday, February 2nd.

“First and foremost, the club would like to apologise to supporters of both Walsall and Charlton for the inconvenience caused. The club also wish to place on record their thanks to both Charlton and The Football League for their support and understanding in this matter.”

Our game against Hartlepool on Saturday is also looking in doubt due to the weather conditions sweeping across the nation.
