United Front is the Only Way

I have been constantly reminded that I`m missing the point. In my article named ‘`we need to work together“ I`m being criticised for not fully understanding the fundamental issues that have torn our club Charlton apart. Let me quite clearly stress. I`m very aware there are an element of supporters who have taken it upon themselves to believe that the ownership has removed vital history belonging to the club by not complying with supporter`s wishes in what they are doing has destroyed the very fabric that has bound this club together since its birth.

Duchatelet is the main target and his name is repeatedly used in all manner of issues from incompetence to causing the decline of Charlton Athletic during his three years as owner. The decline in mention is the league position that was born out of relegation and with it the exodus of thousands of supporters, loyal supporters I`m being reminded each time I write an article. What price is there on loyalty? The support has dwindled because they are dismayed by both the lack of ambition and the arrogant mismanagement of the club.

The view by many that, the only way forward for the club is for Duchatelet to seek a buyer who has the ambition and the vision to reunite the lost support for the club. Strong words but it is flawed. Selling the club might appease all who have a total disregards for the owner of whom I might add has done more for this club than any predecessors and there were many who never so much as had a lick of paint employed to the ailing Valley while in possession. In past games, we were subjected to Duchatelet out and give as back our Charlton. Very commendable I`m sure. Although it always sounded powerful and directional nothing has moved one way or another.

Duchatelet is the grim reaper who on his own with the help of his CEO allowed our club to tumble through divisions to the lows of division one with no aspects of ever again being a force to be reckoned with. Nonsense. With all the hatred employed against him and supporters bent on not giving him another chance to put right the wrongs that have according to so many destroyed our club. The stench that fills the air will never freshen and will in the end choke the very existence of Charlton Athletic.

The exodus of supporters not renewing or refusing to attend home matches is the choice of every individual who acted on their own beliefs and any inducement has nothing to do with the way the club is being run. Duchatelet didn`t tell those in protest not to come to Charlton. It was also expressed in voice by many, that they have no intention of lining his pockets. What utter rubbish. If everyone who supports the Addicks felt this way which I`m glad they don`t the existence of this club would soon be history. The loyalty of this club lays with those supporters who have not listened to a load of verbal nonsense spouted through a second party C.A.R.D who built up a support against the very club they should be supporting.

Let`s be very honest with ourselves. Has all that we had to endure made any difference? Many words in anger have been spoken, but have they rectified the feeling amongst the supporters who followed the cause that was designed to provoke some response from the owners at the very least. I have not seen any?

Black and white scarfs are a symbolic symbol warn by supporters who have a grievance with the entire structure revolving round the club. The other day ‘` Bristol Rovers game“ I observed a young lad not more than 4 years old wearing a black and white scarf. What sort of message does that portray? There is no way this young lad saw anything more with this wearing of the scarf other than something keeping him warm. Future supporters I`m fearful for him. Unity a small word but big in value. Unity can never be achieved if we are divided. We need to think on this and not keep looking backwards
