Alan Pardew has been working hard in his recruitment drive and it seems the hard work is soon to be rewarded.
The first through the door could be Julian Gray from Birmingham. An approach has been made for the winger who has fallen out of favour at Birmingham City and will be out of contract in the summer.
Birmingham are hoping to receive a fee of around £500,000 for the 27-year-old, who is also attracting interest from Rangers and was linked to a move to Charlton last summer. Gray has been a long term target of the Addicks for sometime now and it’s thought the former Crystal Palace star wants to return home to London.
Charlton are also close to beating Birmingham and three Premiership clubs, Reading, Fulham and Watford, to the signing of the FC Groningen midfielder Stefano Seedorf. The 24-year-old is the nephew of Milan’s legend, Clarence Seedorf and is set to arrive at The Valley on a free transfer. He has previously played for NAC Breda, after starting his career at Ajax.
Charlton have missed a number of targets this month, including Steven Pressley, Edgar Davids, Kepa Blanco and Alexei Smertin, who is to join Fulham, and so until the club makes an official announcement we aren’t to get too excited by any transfer stories.
Lastly the Addicks are considering a move for another midfielder, Kevin Amuneke. The 20-year-old Nigerian plays for the Portuguese side Vitoria Setubal and is on the fringes of his national squad.
It isn`t all one way traffic however and the Charlton Board are expecting bids for some of Alan Pardew’s current players.
Charlton will face late bids for star striker Darren Bent before the transfer window closes next Wednesday, including an offer from West Ham. Former boss Alan Curbishley is keen to work with Bent again and he could offer Marlon Harewood and Hayden Mullins plus £8 Million. But, having considered allowing the striker to go, the club are now adamant that they will not sell him.
So let`s hope that before Wednesday there is some fresh blood in the squad and they along with Darren Bent can keep the club in the Premiership.
