Player ratings from Charlton’s disappointing draw with Nottingham Forest

|

Charlton played out a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night against Nottingham Forest, when they really should have had more.

Lyle Taylor’s fourth goal in four games gave the Addicks the advantage, But Albert Adomah’s strike meant the points were shared, despite a dominant and fantastic performance from Lee Bowyer’s men.

Here are my player ratings for the Charlton team after last night’s result:

Dillon Phillips – 5

Dillon barely had anything to do in between the sticks. He was rarely called into action thanks to several Forest shots flying over the bar. There was nothing he could do to stop the equalizer.

Deji Oshilaja – 9

He certainly did drink the Vodka and the Jäger last night because he was absolutely insane! The centre half-filled in for Solly at right back and cut out every attack in front of him. His passing was excellent and he created some chances of his own. He took a beating from the Forest players, I’m surprised he lasted the full 90 minutes but he soldiered through with a brilliant display. Deji wins my Man Of The Match award.

Tom Lockyer – 8

The Welsh international’s best performance in a Charlton shirt so far. He cut out every attack in his way, including that incredible last-ditch tackle on Grabban. Bauer who?

Naby Sarr – 6

Replaced Jason Pearce at centre back and had an alright game. Made a few good blocks and got forward well, but still prefer Jason at the back.

Ben Purrington – 5

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but was he actually on the pitch?

Sam Field – 6

Was handed his league debut and made a big improvement on his display against Forest Green last week. Won everything in the air and made some decent tackles and passes. He still needs more minutes though and will have to stay on top of his game to keep Pratley, Forster-Caskey, Kayal and Lapslie out of the squad.

Josh Cullen – 8

He was all over the pitch and didn’t stop running. His passing was on point and he was darting around the field cutting out Forest’s attacks. He’s untouchable in this starting 11!

Conor Gallagher – 6

Wasn’t the best of displays from the Chelsea prodigy last night. Gave the ball away too many times but didn’t stop working and he was determined to win the ball back after a mistake. He’s a workhorse, but his passing could have been better.

Erhun Oztumer – 9

If he stayed on the pitch for the full 90 minutes he’d have won my Man Of The Match. What an unbelievable debut from the former Bolton man. He showed us exactly what kind of player he is: tricky on the ball with skill, quality and speed. The ‘Turkish Messi’ certainly lived up to his name and he’s got Williams worried for his spot in that number 10 role.

Jonathan Leko – 7

Like Oztumer, he showed his trickery and skill on the ball. His pace is frightening and he proved a massive threat to Forest’s back line. Should have scored with the chance he had in the second half but it was another impressive performance from the West Brom loanee. He’s got a great new chant as well!

Lyle Taylor – 8

He’s definitely put that transfer saga behind him now. Four in four for the Montserrat international, he’s going to be so vital for us this season – provided of course he stays in January! His strength and great feet proved trouble for Lamouchi’s side, another top notch display from the striker,

Subs

Jonny Williams – 5

Came on for Oztumer but failed to have much of an impact. Nearly scored with a cross that hit the bar, but he didn’t have much of an effect on the game.

Chuks Aneke – 4

First touch was terrible and had no impact whatsoever. He won’t be getting ahead of Taylor or Leko anytime soon and with Hemed nowhere, he’ll have to up his game big time.

Darren Pratley – 5

Wasn’t on for long but got stuck in and made some decent tackles.
