Parkinson Post Dagenham

Charlton were stung by injury time goals in both halves on Saturday as we had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Dagenham & Redbridge at The Valley.

Danny Green’s penalty at the end of the first half, after Miguel Llera had given The Addicks the lead infuriated Phil Parkinson. However The Addicks boss knows that we went from playing some top quality football in the first half to substandard in the second that also cost as, Parkinson said: “The first half was the best we have played and I thought it was a very good team performance and we probably deserved to come in two or three goals up.

“Obviously the ref has got Dagenham back in it with a decision nobody else in the ground could understand, so that changed the half-time in both dressing rooms.

“We can have a moan about the ref and he deserves to take a bit of flak for that decision, but equally we went away from playing the football we did in the first half, which at times I thought was top class.”

Parkinson’s anger saw him banished to the stands and whilst he is slightly sorry for his actions he’ll take the punishment he’s given, however he knows we should have won, adding: “I asked the ref for his explanation of the decision and obviously it got slightly heated. That is wrong on my part and I shouldn’t do that. He asked me to go into the stands and I’ve got to take that punishment on the chin but it should have been three points.”

We should’ve won having retaken the lead in injury time at the end of the game but we couldn’t see it out, again.

Of course we were all disappointed with the so called penalty…however I wondered why Parky was not in the technical area after the restart….perhaps if he had not got sent off and was able to sort out the team the outcome may have been different. This was a poor Daggers side and we shoul and could have played them off the park. In the second half Charlton lacked composure, and the team seemed oddly unbalanced and the formation lost any kind of discipline…Ross worner had a very good game (but needs to be careful when punching the ball away…he fell over twice doing that) and Lee Martin certainly looked up for it…Kyel Reid did well for the short time he had on the pitch….it’s odd how two defeders score and our strikers drew another blank…plenty to sort out before Tuesday..including the managers temper!!!Maybe the players need a bit of shouting at…bad refs and poor decisions are going to be around as long as football is around!!

Good point about Parkinson, if he had remained in the technical area perhaps things would’ve been different? We’ll never know though will we.
